Lime light, an intense pulsed light or IPL is a non-invasive and non-ablative treatment where high intensity pulses of visible light are used to treat certain skin conditions and to improve the appearance of skin. The light energy is absorbed by the skin cells and is converted in to heat energy that acts on the specific target. The IPL system is comprised of multi-wavelengths or colors in each pulse. It also uses filters to refine the energy output to treat target area. IPL is non ablative technique that means, it acts only on the deeper layers of the skin known as dermis while sparing the superficial layer, the epidermis. The advantage of this technique over the ablative one is that, there is no downtime and patient may resume his or her routine activities soon after the treatment session.
IPL is the most suitable and effective treatment for vascular lesions including spider veins, angiomas, port wine stains, rosacea, telengiectasia, sun damaged skin, brown spots, pigmented birth marks, melasma, freckles, age marks, facial lines, wrinkles, removal of unwanted dark hair. IPL is also very good for photo-rejuvenation, a procedure to rejuvenate the aged skin leading to a new and younger glowing look.
It is very safe procedure with minimal discomfort. Number of treatment sessions depends on type of skin and severity of the condition.
